When something threatens this magnificent godly gift, we try our best to alleviate it. Cancer is one among the most deadly threats to humankind and ranking top as the leading causes of human deaths. Researches has been done since the beginning of human existence to find a solution to erase it’s progress.
The very thought of losing a loved one or us leaving our dear ones is horrifying. The normal surviving rate of cancer is 5 years. Cancer is a disease which can affect any body part. It begins from a tiny cell and then conquers every region of our body bit by bit at a fast rate if not given proper treatment on time.
The survival rates indicate the effectiveness and access of our healthcare facilities. It also depends upon the population density and the no. Of healthcare units available. In a country like India where discrimination has been a tradition followed since ages ,equality is sometimes compromised irrespective of a democratic government we possess. Most of the time, the rich are preferred more than the poor . The earlier you diagnose and get treatment, the better your survival. This corona pandemic has moreover worsened the situation with minimal access to healthcare services. Many a time we witness that people who have been healed once completely again possess this and leave us to eternity. So this threat is mostly unlikely to be alleviated.
Cancer statistics based on 5-year survival rate revealed that highest percentage of surviving cancer includes testicular cancer(97%) , melanoma(92.3%) , prostate cancer(88%) and least percentage of survival in mesothelioma (7.2%) , pancreatic cancer(7.3%) , brain cancer(12.8%).
Cancer statistics often help us recognise the indiscrimination faced by people across races ,gender, geography and obviously the caste system. If we take the caste system as an example, in the lower caste of the illiterate society cancer is considered a curse on the family , they are normally made aloof and many other superstitions follow by . Such societies witness more deaths . Over the years ,cancer statistics show increased survival rates of 10 years and above in developed regions like the United States where better facilities and treatments are available to the patients. The rate is 442.3 per 100,000 persons according to 2017-18 stats. Another amazing fact that came to be revealed is that the rate of survival is found to be more than men as well as its found to be lower in isolated areas. This is generally found at high rates affecting countries with high life expectancy , literacy and high living standards.
Generally the aim of statistics is not of individual purpose but of a national purpose to study the effects and damage of this deadly disease over its people and how can the government deal with it in a life saving way. Currently the stats of India stands at 70% lesser than the developing countries and it’s estimated to increase five fold in the coming years.
